Hi, welcome to The Style of Sustainability!

My name is Natasha Avalos and I am a 21-year-old advocate for shopping sustainably and putting an end to the trend of fast fashion.

Ever since I was a little girl, my mom instilled in me that clothes and fashion help you present who you are. As I have grown up and began buying my own clothes, I’ve realized just how expensive new clothes are and the amount of waste that comes with shopping and the production of how clothes are made.

In high school, I began thrifting and learned how to save money while shopping and finding unique pieces, as well as staple closet pieces, at an extremely discounted price that are still in good condition that would have ended up in "clothing dumplands" if they were not donated.

In my first two years of college, I began to do more research on the impacts of clothing on the environment. I read numerous peer reviewed articles, studies, blogs, business statements and statistics, and more on how big of an impact fashion production and consumption has on our world.

From learning about the truth behind fast fashion and the amount of waste the world puts in the environment, I have become passionate about putting an end to this damage and helping myself and others find alternative ways to buy clothing that is not destructive to our planet but still allows us to showcase who we are with what we wear.

I decided to create this website to share with you, my fellow “Gen-Zers” and Millennials, that we have the power to change the course of responsible fashion. Follow along as I break down the basics of sustainable fashion, fashion’s impact on the environment, and alternative ways to shop!
